Traveling with Pomegranates: A Mother-Daughter Story has appeared on numerous bestseller lists since its publication September 7. It debuted on the New York Times bestseller list at #10 and the Indie bestseller list at #6.

The answers are intended to start up conversations among women in connection with the release of the "Shriver Report: A Woman's Nation." The report, released in October 2009, is the result of an exhaustive study by Maria Shriver and the Center for American Progress about the status of women today, pointing to a major tipping point in our nation's social and economic history.

Audio Book Read by Authors

Sue and her daughter, Ann, spent several days in a recording studio, reading the audio edition of their co-authored book, Traveling with Pomegranates. This mother-daughter memoir, which tells the story of their travels together at a particularly poignant time in each of their lives, as well as the story of their search for one another, was written in their alternating voices. The recording allows readers to hear Sue and Ann bring their stories alive in their own words. It will be available from Penguin Audio Sept 8, 2009.

The People’s Choice

The Secret Life of Bees movie won two People’s Choice Awards at the 35th annual awards ceremony, taking home Best Movie Drama and Best Independent Movie. The ceremony was broadcast live January 7, 2009 on CBS from Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, with Queen Latifah as host. Winners are determined in a national vote by “the people.”

A New Book to be Published - Fall 2009

Sue's new book, Traveling with Pomegranates: A Mother-Daughter Story, co-authored with her daughter, Ann Kidd Taylor, will be published September 8, 2009 by Viking. Set against the backdrop of Sue and Ann's travels together in Greece and France, this dual memoir offers distinct perspectives from two women at different stages in life-- a fifty something and a twenty something, each at crossroads, each on a quest to redefine herself, and rediscover one another.

The Secret Life of Bees Movie Wins Two NAACP Image Awards


The 40th annual NAACP Image Awards were televised live on Fox Thursday, February 12th from Los Angeles. Leading with eight nominations, The Secret Life of Bees won awards for Most Outstanding Picture and Best Director. On hand to accept the award for Most Outstanding Picture were producers Lauren Shuler Donner, Joe Pichirallo, Will and Jada Smith, director Gina Prince-Bythewood, and cast members Dakota Fanning, Jennifer Hudson, Nate Parker, and Tristan Wilds.

‘Bees’ To Be Released on DVD and Blue-ray

The Secret Life of Bees movie will be released on DVD and Blue-ray on Feb. 3, 2009 by Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Included as Bonus Features on the DVD are the theatrical version of the film, a special Director's Extended Cut with never-before-seen footage, Deleted Scenes, Inside the Pink House with Sue Monk Kidd, The World Premiere, The Men and Women of The Secret Life of Bees, Adaptation: Bringing The Secret Life of Bees To The Big Screen, and Commentary featuring Director/Writer Gina Prince-Bythewood, Producers Lauren Shuler Donner and Joe Pichirallo, Actors Dakota Fanning And Queen Latifah. In addition to these features, the Blue-Ray disc will include an exclusive featurette starring Dakota Fanning entitled, Bee Keeping 101.
